Okay I am stealing this quote off a friend’s facebook page. I think it is fitting for the martial arts and for life in general.
“Do, or do not……there is no try.” ~ Yoda
I 100% completely agree with this little green dude from Star Wars. It is so true. Either you are going to do something or you are not. Saying you will try is like you are already accepting defeat or failure. When you go to do something, you already need to believe that you will accomplish it. Why would you intentional start something knowing you will never finish it?! Does that make any sense? I do not believe so.
People only use the words “I will try” as an excuse to fail at something before they even attempt or start it. Yes failure is always an option and it does happen. We learn from it and move forward. You may fail at something many of times before you can do it or get it done. But if you did finish what you started, you didn’t try, you just did it.
If you know without a shadow of a doubt that you will not accomplish or finish something, why are you starting it?! We only have so much energy to go around. If something is not worth it to you, do not bother. Find something that is worth it to you. Do something that you know you can accomplish. Even if it takes a long time or maybe you won’t accomplish your goal but you will never stop pushing forward.
In life in general there is no in between the Do and do not. You don’t try at your life. You are either alive or you are dead. You are either doing something, or you are not. The choices are always up to you. Not everything will be accomplished but you did what you had to do to get where you are. Accept failure and move forward. Do not accept lame attempts to cover your failures and lack of accomplishments. Choose to do, or not do. There is nothing else.
Hope you enjoyed.
