2010 Black Belt Grading

Hello Everyone

Well this pass Saturday June 19th, 2010 was the yearly Black Belt Grading here at Cobourg Tae Kwon Do.  Judgment Day which some of us like to call it. It was 10 hours of very hard training. It started at 9am and ended shortly after 7pm.

The day started with Sa Buhm Nim Jeff Morrow having a general meeting with the 13 other students who were grading with him. Then the 14 of the taught lil’ dragons class for 30 minutes. Following this they did about 55 minutes of punching and pattern work.

Sparring was next for close to a hour. I will tell ya, that was some of the best sparring I have seen. They were fast, clean, and powerful. This was followed by a lunch break. After lunch we ran to the beach and did a really hard 25 minute workout and finished the beach time with blocks and one step sparring.

After arriving back at the dojang they did a hour of nunchaku training with Sir Ian from DeSantos Martial Arts Studio in Toronto. The next hour was a very hard hour of nonstop high energy kicking drills with Sir Sean from DeSantos Martial Arts Studio. After that Sa Buhm Nim Richard did some yoga with the students. Next was musical forms and breaking for the students.

At the end of the day the students had an one on one meeting with me in my office to discuss the grading. This was followed by a clean up and everyone dragging their butts out the door.

I will have to say that this was the best grading we have had so far. The quality of the students was top notch.

Congrats to Charlotte, Jeff, Ismael, Dakota, Reilly, Brodie, Liam, Ethan, Jordan, Jamie, Fatima, Mikaela, Ginie, and Ryan for passing their Black Belt grading yesterday at Cobourg Tae Kwon Do. They proved why we have the best Black Belts in our area.

Wish I could go into details about the grading but that would spoil the experience for any future Black Belts of mine. I should have some pics and videos uploaded soon from grading though.

The Black Belt Ceremony will be held Friday June 25th at the Cobourg Memorial Temple on the corner of Victoria and University at 7:30pm. We are also charging $2 admission per person coming to watch so we can pay hall rental and all profits will go to benefit Team Wolverine this year. Make sure you invite your friends and family to come watch.

  1. maybe I’ll have to make my trip to Coburg for BB Grading an annual event — I wouldn’t want to let anyone down. Or maybe just for Jeff’s gradings…

  2. Not sure if my last comment went through so here it is again.

That sounds like quite the ordeal. I am a long way off but feel inspired by the latest black belt grades. I am sure glad I’ll have quite a bit of training and time before being ready for ‘judgment day’.

Congratulations everyone on a great job; as it seem quite clear by what is required that you can only have been great to have succeeded.
