SOCIAL MEDIA ABUSE

I think social media is awesome. We got facebook, twitter, instagram, linkedin, google+, and the list goes on. They allow us to connect and interact with people from all over the world. We get to share life events, photos, videos, messages, statuses, tweets, and experiences with with friends and family near and far. Social media allows us to share our ideas, exchange information, and promote what we love.

However social media also has a dark side. Along with sharing all these great experiences with everyone, social media is a portal for people to abuse. They harass others, they make fun of people, they make hateful comments, share pictures and videos that would be deemed hateful and harassing to others, they share negative ideas. Given any opportunity and they use a great way to communicate in a negative way. Wasting their energy on trying to hurt others through hating and trolling. These are the abusers of social media.

I think we are lucky to live in a time where we have access to technology that allows us to connect with so many people with a click or two of the mouse and a little typing on the keyboard. We have the ability to help shape the future by what we are doing today and at these vary moments. By being hateful on any of the social medias you are saying it is okay to be abusive towards others. Worse yet, agreeing with someone’s hatefulness is the same as doing the original hate by saying that this behaviour is okay and acceptable to you.

I believe we should focus our attention on sharing all the good things we have to offer. Share our ideas, engaged in conversations that can better our society, and promote the things we love in a positive manner. Choose not to accept others negative and hatefulness. Act accordingly to how you would like to see others, your children, your grandchildren, and the future people act towards each other. The more transparent the world becomes through all these social medias the more we have to choose the right courses of action. The more we give others access to us, the more accountable we are for our actions and interactions.

Use the gifts of this great technology with responsibility and positivity. Strive to better each other.
