Pictures of Kettlebells

Hello Everyone

This will be a short blog today. I just wanted to show everyone some of the pictures Gerri Weatherbee took of Selena and I for promoting Kettlebell Classes here at Cobourg Tae Kwon Do. I have been doing Kettlebells now for almost a year and Selena started back in April 2009. You can really see what kettlebells can do to your body in some of these pictures.

Kettlebells are an awesome full body workout. They work all the muscles of the body all at once. Kettlebells can increase your lean muscle mass, increase your cardio capacity, increase your range of motion in your joints, increase strength and power, and reduce body fat. All this from one workout. If you want more info on our Kettlebell classes, call me at 905-373-0032.

I would like to thank Gerri Weatherbee of of Gerri Photography for taking such great promo photos for us. You can reach Gerri at gerriphotography.com if you would like to book her for any of your photography needs. I would also like to thank Selena for doing the promo shots for me. I owe you one, or several.

Take care for now,

Magazine/Kettlebell Pics

Hello Everyone

It has been a little while since I wrote  a blog. A combination of being busy with the business and training. Anyway I got a few topics to talk about in short. First of all, for the ones that haven’t heard I am now a published writer. My one blog from July was published in KIAI: Canadian martial Arts magazine in the Fall 2009 Issue, I was also asked to write another article for the next issue on Russian Kettlebells. I was asked after I taught a 3 hour seminar on Kettlebells to a group of Black Belts at Grandmaster Veronica DeSantos’ DeSantos premier Martial Arts Studio back in October. I just finished writing the article and sent it away for editing. Here is the link to KIAI and I think everyone should support our Canadian Martial Arta magazine and subscribe to it. I know I am. The link is http://www.kiai-magazine.com

I also had Gerri from Gerri Photography take some pictures for the magazine as well as for publicity. She just sent me a few pictures the other day as a teaser and I have attached them below. Gerri is an excellent photographer and if you are looking to get photos done for any and all occasions, contact her through her website. http://www.gerriphotography.com Gerri also took some pictures of Selena for the Kettlebell classes.  She is one of our Taekwondo/Fitness Kickboxing/Kettlebell student here at Cobourg Tae Kwon Do. Selena is actually the first person I ever taught Kettlebells to. And if anyone remembers the Selena workout from months ago. That is the girl I created it for. More Pictures of the photoshoot of her and I should be coming soon. Gerri got some great shoots of some aerial kicks of mine as well.

If anyone is interested in Kettlebell classes with me, just let me know and I will fill you in. Kettlebells are my main training tool for conditioning of my cardio, strength, power, core strength, joint mobility, and flexibility. My Taekwondo performance has greatly improved since I started training with them. The difference it made in my training showed when I won 3rd Place at the 2009 ISKA World Championships back in July down in Florida.

I am expecting 2010 to be a good and busy year here at Cobourg Tae Kwon Do. We are going to have the biggest Black Belt grading we have ever had. Team Wolverine is going to be bigger than ever and our training is gonna rock. The 2010 ISKA US OPEN and World Championships are gonna be great. And I am hoping to line up some other good stuff as well.

Take care for now.

Black Belt Grading Practice/Kettlebell Intro

Hello Everyone

Okay let’s get right to it. We did a Black Belt grading practice on Monday May 18th for one hour. We practiced our punching drills, blocking drills, and our patterns. It looks like everyone is going to be ready for the grading. Allover the techniques and stances look good and they remember what they need to know. We all know I hold the toughest grading in Northumbrland County. 10 hours with me is not easy. I am always impress by how my students dig deep down inside of themselves and conquer whatever challenges I throw at them. They got the Wolverine spirit of never giving up. If you gave up you are no longer alive. I do beleive they know they got it easy compared to myself and Master Joyce Farrell as we did 40 hours with Grandmaster Veronica DeSantos and all that training that she made us do.

Of that last sentence or two I had a lady from another club argue with me once that what we had to do for grading was too much and she didn’t beleive we did it. My response was that you can call my master and ask her yourself. I also told her if she beleived that there is such a thing as being too much when it comes to bettering yourself then she shouldn’t be in the martial arts or be a parent of a child in martial arts. Just because one academy does things different compared to another school does not make them wrong. It makes them different. The world is full of differences. There is no such thing as one way. Anyone who believes in just one way should not be involved in martial arts or teaching it.

I also did a mini intro class on kettlebells with 6 of my ladies of various ages and fitness levels. We did 45 minutes of instructions as well as a few mini cardio circuits. They all did pretty well and were a little sore a few days later. That’s to be expected as it is a completely new exercise program for most of them. Well at least 5 of the 6.  Selena obviously been working with me so she was able to set a good example for the rest. Thanks to Joanne, Angela, Margaret, Julie, Shellene, and Selena for trying the Kettlebells out. I was able to figure out that most ladies should start out with 15lbs to 20lbs kettlebells and work their way up. I can’t wait to start teaching them in June and start training clients privately. If you want to know more, contact me.

Kettlebell training seminar with Agatsu

Hi Everyone

Well I did a 16 hour very intense Kettlebell certification course with Agatsu Inc. on the weekend in Toronto. I passed all the test and I am now a Level one certified Kettlebell instructor.  Agatsu is the oldest, biggest, and best Kettlebell certification company in Canada. Shawn Mozen, the presdient of Agatsu Inc. is an amazing instructor and extremely strong and powerfeul.

We had to do 16 hours of training with the kettlebells, teach the skills toe veryone else, do an exam on knowledge, and pass a couple of cardio and endurance tests. The last endurance test you were not allowed to put the kettlebell down unless told to or you would fail and have to take the course again.

The hardest test was called “Chrissy”. You did 45 burpees, 20 swings, 40 burpees, 25 swings and etc,. until you get to 5 burpees, and finish with 45 swings. Shawn said if you are under 25 minutes you are in good shape, 15 minutes is extremely fit. I got 11 minutes and 51 seconds. First one done in the griup. Second guy was 15 minutes and 51 seconds. Last person was over 22 minutes. Shawn’s best time is 9 minutes and 45 seconds. That is the fastest time to date.

So anyway I got new stuff to add to all my classes as well as I am starting a Kettlebell class soon. Probably in June.
